I called the Principal twice regarding 2 difference situations and I never received a call back! This lacks shows a lack of integrity.

My son came to Woodcrest towards the end of Kindergarden. The school he came from had much higher requirements, including reading 100 words by the end of Kindergarden. I became concerned about the lower standards and tried to talk with both teacher and principal. Both told me to wait until 1st grade, he would be challenged, but even 1st grades list of required wors is less than his previous school. I was then told that at the end of 2nd grade he might be able to test into GATE, but at this point it seems they have not been willing to provide him a challenge and help prevent him from getting bored in the classroom.

Woodcrest has many strengths and a few weaknesses. They have a great academic program. Since their English Language Learner population is high, they implement and effective language program called GLAD. GLAD strategies make learning more comprehensible. Another strenght is the consistancy of their All the Arts for All the Kids program. For the past seven years, Woodcrest has been introducing its student body to enriching art, music, dance, and theater classes. Students are challenged and encouraged by skilled teachers to explore their own creativity. These teachers not only offer a wealth of background knowledge from their particular fields, but they bring with them realia and artifacts to make learning more captivating. One weakness of Woodcrest's is their limited sports programs. The Afterschool Program has embarked on starting a coed basketball and soccer team, however parents must enroll their son or daughter in the program in order to access the teams.

Principal does not enforce school or district dress code policy. Too many parents on property during meals. Meal tables not clean for students. Parents need to get involved more.
